Legislation to Regulate Online Gambling

Responsible online gambling requires cooperation among operators, regulators and researchers. It should also incorporate the use of effective treatment and prevention strategies for Internet gamblers. These may range from brief online interventions to in-depth treatment programmes. Moreover, online self-exclusion programmes must offer options to restrict the use of multiple gambling sites simultaneously.

While online gambling is legal in most countries, it is illegal in many others. Some states in the US prohibit online gambling, while others allow it. Many countries have minimum age requirements for online gambling. In most cases, this minimum age is 18 years, but in some places, the age limit can be as high as 19 years.

In response, lawmakers are introducing legislation to regulate internet gambling. The Internet Gambling Regulation and Tax Enforcement Act is one such measure. It would license and tax online gambling businesses. However, it would not prohibit them from accepting bets from citizens of the United States. Another bill introduced in Congress is the Skill Game Protection Act. It clarifies the Wire Act to allow certain types of games to be played online.

Online gambling sites host casino games developed by gambling software providers. To access the games, an online gambler needs a computer or a mobile device with an internet connection. Once they’ve accessed the site, they can fund a betting account and select the casino game they prefer. After making a selection, players can begin betting and request their winnings.
